The event, with the focus on technical, professional and business issues related to use of Tamil on the Internet and in Tamil computing, is being organised by the U.S chapter of the International Forum for Information Technology in Tamil (INIFTT). The chair of the U.S. organising committee, Mani M. Manivannan, in a message from the U.S. said ``Through the competition we would like to generate widespread interest in Tamil Internet and Tamil heritage among Tamil school children.'' The competition themes (for creating web pages) included ``Our Tamil heritage'', ``Local music, art, craft forms'', ``People that inspired me/us'', ``A book that inspired me/us'', Place that we love, ``Wonders of the world'', ``Wonders of the sky'', ``Tamil as a global citizen'' and ``Sports that Tamils enjoy''. While teachers and parents could be project leaders or mentors, the basic research and design must be done by students from any grade below the pre-university level. The competition would be open effectively on July 10 and all entries must reach the organisers by September 1, 2002. The INFITT was planning to compile a selection of the entries into an online book which will be accessible around the world. Details of the competition can be had on the web sites ``www.infitt.org/t12002/competition'' or ``www.tamilinternet.org``
