LA unearths graft in yet another CMC

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE JULY 6. In the continuing clampdown on local bodies, the Lokayukta today raided the Bommanahalli City Municipal Council office, unearthing financial irregularities to the tune of over Rs.40 crores.

Sensing the impending raids, the council officials attempted yet again to erase evidence burning several key documents.

Led by the Lokayukta, Venkatachala, the raiding party swooped down on the CMC office today afternoon.

The quick entry of the team caught those present at the office by surprise. Acting fast, the team confiscated many documents literally from the fire.

A thorough inquiry revealed that the CMC had spent Rs.50 crores for development works in Bommanahalli in the past three years.

The Lokayukta officials suspect that Rs.25 crores should have been misappropriated by the officials.

The Lokayukta was of the view that the CMC office lacked transparency in awarding contracts for road works, use of streetlights, billing, and documentation of drinking water pump purchases.
