Army denies reports

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI JULY 7. The Army today rejected reports in a section of the press which claimed that three militants killed by troops recently on the Line of Control (LoC) were local villagers.

In a statement here, the Defence Ministry said three infiltrators were seen crossing the LoC in the early hours of June 29 and they were killed at Phagwari Gali in Mendhar sector in an exchange of fire with the troops.

The Army claimed to have recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition from them. The Army lodged an FIR with the Mendhar police station on June 29 and a counter FIR was lodged by the relatives of those killed on July 1.
