Inflation up

New Delhi July 7. A sharp hike in the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel oil pushed up inflation by another 0.19 per cent to 2.24 per cent for the week ended June 22 as compared to over 5.0 per cent in the previous year.

The point-to-point price change as measured by the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) rose from the previous week's figure of 2.05 per cent, despite a price dip in vegetables and fruits, wheat, jowar, bottles and black-and-white TV sets.

Ever since the administered price mechanism on petroleum products had been done away with from April 1, there were two instances when inflation spurted due to surge in their prices.
