T.N. files fresh suit

By J. Venkatesan

NEW DELHI July 10. Even as an earlier suit is expected to come up for hearing on July 22, the Tamil Nadu Government today filed a fresh suit in the Supreme Court accusing Karnataka of deliberately and wilfully not obeying the interim orders of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal and that the Cauvery River Authorityhad become ineffective in ensuring implementation of the interim award.

Indications are that Tamil Nadu will withdraw its earlier suit filed in September last, for a direction to Karnataka to release one tmcft of water every day to save the `samba' crop, and will pursue the present suit, which among other reliefs, seeks a decree that the Cauvery Water Scheme as notified in 1998 has become ineffective.
