UGC list of fake universities

CHANDIGARH JULY 11 . The Haryana Department of Higher Education has cautioned the people against 22 fake institutions in Bihar, Delhi, Kerala, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, which are misleading the students by associating the word of `University' or `Vishwavidyalaya' with their names to project that they are empowered to award degrees.

Expressing serious concern over the mushrooming of such institutions, the Director, Higher Education, Dhanpat Singh said that the degrees or diplomas or certificates awarded by these institutions would neither be valid nor recognised for academic or employment purposes.

The list of fake universities and institutions released by the University Grants Commission includes the Maithili University; the Vishwavidyalaya, Darbhanga, Bihar; the Commercial University, Delhi; the Delhi Vishwavidyalaya, Model Town, Delhi; the United Nations University, Delhi; the Vocational University, Delhi; the St. John's University, Kishanattam, Kerala; the Raja Arabic University, Nagpur; the Kesarwani Vidyapith, Jabalpur, and the DDB Sanskrit University, Puttur, Tamil Nadu.

Other such institutions listed in Uttar Pradesh include the Mahila Gram Vidyapith Vishwavidyalaya, (Women's University) Prayag, Allahabad; the Varanaseya Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi/Jagat Puri, Delhi; the India Education Council, Lucknow; the Gandhi Hindi Vidyapith, Prayag, Allahabad; the National University of Electro Complex Homeopathy, Kanpur; the Netaji Subhash Chandra University, Achaltal, Aligarh; the Uttar Pradesh Vishwavidyalaya, Kosi Kalan, Mathura, and the Maharana Pratap Shiksha Niketan Vishwavidyalaya, Pratapgarh.

The Bharatiya Shiksha Parishad in Lucknow has also not been recognised by the Commission. However, the issue was in court. — PTI
