Letters to the Editor
Sir, Syed Shahabuddin is reported to have called the Presidential candidate A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, a `Muslim-Hindu' and not a complete Muslim. It is most unfortunate that a person of his calibre has exhibited scant understanding of Islam, which denotes a duty and total surrender to the will of God. Any person who professes submission to God is at absolute peace with one's surrounding and is known for compassion, truth and mercy. This was the core and quintessence of Islam. Dr. Kalam believes and practises quintessential Islam in his own style and thus qualifies to be a true Muslim. His love and admiration for Hinduism does not necessarily make him a Hindu. Mr. Shahabuddin's utterances must be dubbed unIslamic.
