By S. Vydhianathan
The family members, speaking in hushed tones, tried to mask their feelings. Though used to his long absence from home, his family was shaken by the turn of events. Mr. Vaiko, who is mostly on tour, seldom spends time with his family. Even when in the city, he would only ``visit'' the house as he spends more time with volunteers at the party headquarters. But his absence this time was painful to the family members. Eagerly awaiting his arrival after a 10-day tour of the United States, they were in a state of shock at the turn of events. They left for the airport in the morning hoping to meet him before the arrest. But they returned disappointed when they were told that his flight was delayed and that he would be arriving only in the evening. Meanwhile, word was received that police would not allow them to meet Mr. Vaiko. But they, nevertheless, decided to go to the airport, at least to get a glimpse of him. They were lucky to meet him for a few minutes. They then followed the police convoy for a short distance.
