Letters to the Editor
Sir, I hope that with the arrest of Vaiko, the politicians and the people will differentiate between the sad plight of the Sri Lankan Tamils and the LTTE. The arrest is a brilliant move by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, and the timing could not be more perfect. Hopefully, this will send two messages to the Centre, our new Foreign Minister, Yashwant Sinha, who is now visiting Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan Government: First, Tamils in India may sympathise with the plight of Sri Lankan Tamils, but we have no love lost for the LTTE or its leader. Secondly, we believe in good neighbourly relations with Sri Lanka but do not appreciate its dealings with the LTTE who masterminded the Rajiv Gandhi assassination.
