Kerala HC directive on medical entrance exam papers

KOCHI JULY 12 . The Kerala High Court today directed the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations to revalue the papers of the Medical/Agriculture entrance examination and recast the rank list. Partially allowing a batch of writ petitions filed by aggrieved candidates challenging the deletion of 17 questions during valuation, Justice K.A. Abdul Gafoor found the deletion of five questions from Physics/Chemistry papers as unjustified.

The court was of the view that there were correct answers for these questions in the answer key and, therefore, should have been included in the valuation.

On the Biology paper, the court held that question No. 51 of B-1 version had to be deleted, as there was much confusion as to the correct answer key.The Government pleader conceded that question No. 90 of (B-1 version) Biology was a wrong deletion.

The petitioners contended that wrong deletion prejudicially affected their ranking. They sought revaluation and recasting of the rank list.

The court had referred 20 disputed questions to subject experts from the Government Maharaja's College and the Cochin University of Science and Technology, seeking their opinion. The court's verdict was based on their opinion. — UNI
