World trade centre at Kochi

KOCHI JULY 12. The Government proposes to construct a `world trade centre' with all modern facilities near Jawaharlal International stadium at Kaloor, Cherkalam Abdullah, Minister for Local Administration, said here today. The 17-storeyed building will be constructed on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis. The Government will welcome private participation in this project. The Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) will also cooperate in this programme, he said.

The Minister said that sub-way projects would come up at Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode. The Government was working on the project which would ease traffic problems in the city. The Minister submitted a preliminary report on the development of Thiruvananthapuram to O.Rajagopal, Minister of State for Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation. Mr.Abdullah said that the work on the third bridge of the Goshree project would begin by the end of next month. He held discussions with officials on the progress of the project. He said the Government would welcome private participation in solid waste and hospital management programmes. Work on the "Kudumbasangamam'' project for unemployed youth would begin soon. The Government would extend financial assistance to set up industrial units under this programme, he said.
