Thakkar sworn in acting Governor of Maharashtra

Mumbai July 13. The Chief Justice of Mumbai High Court, Chunilal Karsandas Thakkar, was today sworn-in acting Governor of Maharashtra at a ceremony at Raj Bhavan here.

The Acting Chief Justice, G.D. Patil, administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new incumbent in the presence of the outgoing Governor, P.C. Alexander, who resigned on July 8 nearly eight months ahead of expiry of his term. Mr. Thakkar took the oath of office in English.

Among those present, included the Chief Minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh, the Deputy Chief Minister, Chhagan Bhujbal, the Assembly Speaker, Arun Gujrathi and Ministers, senior civil and military officials. — PTI
