Letters to the Editor
Sir, I would like to comment on the Government strategy of providing free midday meal with egg to school children. On the outskirts of Bhopal, I found that not only children but teachers too visit school once a month when a handful of rice or wheat is doled out. The teacher is no more a key factor in education. Instead, he distributes cereals to the people out there. The teaching community has adopted a disinterested attitude towards its prime objective: teaching. At the same time, teachers do their best to resist scrutiny. No Government policy or union would be able to accomplish any remarkable success unless we adopt a self-consciously virtuous attitude to the problem. Ujjwal Mathur Bhopal
