Malkani, Pondy Governor?

New Delhi July 19. The veteran BJP leader, K.R. Malkani, is tipped to become the Governor of Pondicherry. The proposal was cleared by the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, and a formal announcement is expected in a day or two. Mr. Malkani is among the seniormost of the BJP leaders, and has been a leading ideologue of the hard-core variety. In recent years, he became more and more critical of the Vajpayee Government as he found himself pushed to the marginThe decision to provide Mr. Malkani a ceremonial but coveted position is seen as part of a new effort to mollify the die-hard BJP party "workers''.
