Sri Lanka's score, a new record

Sri Lanka, on Monday, at the P. Sara Stadium in Colombo, against Bangladesh, became the only second team in Test cricket history to score 500 Test runs in a day's play after England which made 503-2 on June 30, 1924, which was also the second day of the Test match against South Africa at Lord's.

However, Sri Lanka's 509 runs during the course of play on Monday is a new Test record for the maximum runs scored by a team in a single day's play.

Teams scoring more than 450 runs in a day in Test cricket: 509-9, Sri Lanka vs. Bangladesh at Colombo (PSS), 22-07-2002 (2nd day); 503-2, England vs. South Africa at Lord's, 30-06-1924 (2nd day); 494-6, Australia vs. South Africa, at Sydney, 09-12-1910 (1st day); 475-2, Australia vs. England, at The Oval, 18-08-1934 (1st day); 471-8, England vs. India, at The Oval, 15-08-1936 (1st day); 458-3, Australia vs. England, at Leeds, 11-07-1930 (1st day); 455-1, Australia vs. England, at Leeds, 21-07-1934 (2nd day); 451-10, South Africa vs. New Zealand, at Christchurch, 29-02-1932 (2nd day); 450-10, Australia vs. South Africa, at Johannesburg, 12-11-1921 (1st day).
