Files for bankruptcy

NEW YORK JULY 22. The WorldCom Inc. has filed for bankruptcy protection, almost four weeks after the telecommunications giant disclosed nearly $4 billions in deceptive accounting.

Fuelled by fears about struggling American markets and the WorldCom's decision to file for bankruptcy, share prices in Europe slid in trading today. Taking their cue from declining Asian bourses, markets in London, Paris and Frankfurt dipped.
