Letters to the Editor
Sir, This is in response to "Fatal flaw in work culture" by Inder Malhotra (`Capital Talk,' July 24). While it is true that the work culture in the Government has deteriorated, the reason could well be found in the work culture or lack of it in the leaders who are expected to lead by example. Not a day passes without some section or the other staging a `walkout' either in Parliament or one of the Assemblies. Often the reason for such walkouts appears to be ridiculous to the ordinary man. Last week the Opposition walked out of the Kerala Assembly because a DIG of police arrested during a raid on a brothel had escaped from custody. Another day the walkout was over the murder of a party worker. Are these matters so important that hours are wasted in loud protests and slogan shouting while major issues such as lack of water and electricity, bad roads and communications and corrupt practices in the education system get overlooked? Usha Sahana, New Delhi
