Letters to the Editor
Sir, In your editorial "A Sinister gameplan" (July 22), you have been most appropriate in condemning Narendra Modi's action in dissolving the Assembly and seeking early elections to take advantage of the communal situation prevailing in the State. However, this has not caused any surprise since the BJP did not yield to pressure to sack Mr. Modi, as its plan was to hold elections under his leadership. It is shocking that moderate leaders such as Atal Behari Vajpayee and NDA allies are unable to check the communal politics for the sake of power. Now the ball is in the Election Commission's court. It should not order immediate elections and has to be satisfied with the law and order situation in the State. It has to appoint impartial observers to see the ground situation. Above all, it should ensure that electoral rolls are properly revised since the minorities have been displaced from their residence and are yet to return. The EC has to be firm and should not succumb to any pressure under any circumstances. R.Muralikumar, Chennai
