Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to the report `Dead before they are even born' by Gaurav Bhatnagar (Magazine, June 30). Mere laws relating to ultrasound scanners and individual families are not sufficient. There are no laws or policies for protecting girls below six years. There is a need to shed the iconoclastic picture of a woman who takes delight in self-effacement, sacrifice and suffering. Women empowerment should be enhanced socially, financially, politically and psychologically. Literacy is the panacea for all ills. The Curriculum should be revised so as to tell the present and future generations that the birth of a girl is not a moment for lamentation but for pride. Ritu Sharma and Annapurna Misra, Lucknow
