Sir, The Railways need to be appreciated for giving concessions to senior citizens. It is a great help to allow them to send someone and get the tickets booked without any hassle about proof of age. No proof is required at the time of booking. Once they book the tickets, they have enough time to produce proof, even if they did not have one earlier. If proof of age is insisted at the time of booking, the senior citizen will be forced to come in person. Any old man with a proof can come and buy the ticket but the actual traveller could be someone not eligible for concession. Therefore, insistence of proof during travel prevents hassle for genuine passengers and also misuse by ineligible passengers. Collecting the difference amount between the concessional fare and the actual fare when caught is much too light a punishment tempting enough for ineligible passengers to take a chance. S. Pushpavanam, Tiruchi, T.N.
