Letters to the Editor
Sir, - This refers to the Southern Railway CPRO's letter explaining the position regarding grant of travel concession to senior citizens. It has been mentioned, "the rules governing concession are printed on the reverse of the ticket." What is printed on the reverse of the ticket is that "this ticket is valid only along with the travel authority quoted if any." This is in very fine print and extremely difficult to read. While in the case of every other concession the "travel authority" is quoted on the face of the ticket, no such authority is quoted in the case of concession tickets to senior citizens, for obvious reasons. In the context of earlier complaints of hardships experienced by senior citizens, it was suggested in these columns that a legend, "proof of age to be carried" should be printed on the face of the ticket. Also, announcements should be made at stations that those who hold senior citizen's concession tickets should ensure that they have with them documentary proof of their age. V. Krihnamachari, Mumbai
