Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to the treatment meted out to the Malayalam actress, Samyuktha Varma, and her team in the U.S. Compared to some Americans, Indians are generally well-behaved. What happened on the flight was racial profiling. An American passenger sent a note to the pilot that there were people looking Arabic who were exchanging notes and talking to each other. Racial profiling by this American led to the pilot warning the U.S. Homeland Defence command, which sent the Air Force jets to escort the plane. About 500 such "escorts" have happened since September 11. Let us not belittle ourselves and ask for forgiveness when none is needed. Ms. Varma should file a lawsuit against the American passenger, the pilot and the airline. Kris Sriram, Lake Forest, Illinois
