Curfew clamped in Gujarat town

By Our Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD July 28. An indefinite curfew has been clamped in Prantij town in Sabarkantha district in north Gujarat following a communal clash today.

About ten shops were set afire by violent mobs that also indulged in heavy brick-batting.

At least three persons were injured in the violence.

Police could not say what sparked off the disturbances but said curfew was imposed as a precautionary measure. They had to burst tear gas to bring the situation under control.

Meanwhile, in Ahmedabad the police arrested 18 persons following an explosion in a water pipeline in a house in Dani Limda locality while it was being repaired.

One person was injured in the explosion.

The police suspected that some explosives were hidden in the pipeline.
