SMP for sugarcane raised

NEW DELHI JULY 30. The Government has decided to increase the statutory minimum price (SMP) and the recovery premium for sugarcane for the 2002-03 sugar season.

The SMP has been increased from Rs. 62.05 to Rs. 64.50 a quintal and the premium, which is given for recoveries above the basic level of 8.5 per cent, from 73 paise to 76 paise for every 0.1 per cent increase in recovery.
