Infiltration has not stopped, says Advani

New Delhi July 31. Infiltration along the Line of Control has declined but has not stopped altogether, the Deputy Prime Minister, L. K. Advani, said in the Rajya Sabha today. Intervening during question hour, he said it was too early to say that infiltration had stopped completely as it could be judged only over a period of time.

Compared to June and July last year, there had been some decline in cross-border infiltration for the corresponding period this year, but it was continuing. And there were already enough Pakistani infiltrators in the country to carry out violence for another three to four months with the same intensity.

On Pakistan's claim that it had curbed infiltration, Mr. Advani said that it was evident from the statement that Islamabad had been encouraging infiltration in the past. And notwithstanding Pakistan's claims of having stopped infiltration permanently, it was not possible to make an immediate assessment. — PTI
