Attack on security zone

Jammu July 31. Militants, armed with automatic weapons, penetrated the highly-protected security zone in Rajouri town and mounted an attack on the residence of the Deputy Commissioner, Assad Yar Khan, this evening.

Police sources told The Hindu that around 7.30 p.m. a group of militants penetrated the VIP zone where district officers, including the DC, senior police officers and other State administration officers reside and started firing indiscriminately. Security forces returned the fire.

The area has been cordoned off and additional police reinforcements have been rushed to the spot.
