Tamil Nadu-Chennai
By Our Staff Reporter
The cable tv operators would have to furnish details regarding number of connections given by them in every area. Non-compliance would entail severe action, a press note said. Even by conservative estimates, Chennai would have anything over 8 lakh cable TV connections, Deputy Commissioner (Revenue and Finance), D.P.Yadav said. Going by entertainment tax of Rs 20 per subscriber per month, this should yield at least Rs 1.6 crore per month to the civic agency. But as per the budget report of the Corporation this year, only Rs 25 lakh has been collected by the agency last year. A meeting was convened by the Commissioner, M.Kalaivanan at the Ripon Building today to take up the issue with cable tv operators, when the deadline was fixed. A similar deadline was fixed by the civic agency a few months ago, but did not materialise. This time though, the issue has been decide with the congizance of the cable tv associations.
