Technical work in AIR, DD affected

NEW DELHI AUG. 2. Technical work in Akashvani and Doordarshan was affected today following a pen down strike by the engineers and officers. The strike was called by the Joint Forum of Akashvani and Doordarshan Engineering Employees pressing for the notification of the service conditions and recruitment rules of Prasar Bharati. The forum also demanded immediate withdrawal of the Information & Broadcasting Ministry's order of February 19, 2002, by which all employees of All India Radio and Doordarshan were transferred to Prasar Bharati on deputation "without following the Prasar Bharati Act of 1990,'' and continuance of housing, health and other facilities till they are finally absorbed in Prasar Bharati.

Only essential transmission took place today as the agitation affected recording, outdoor broadcasting and news gathering.
