Shelling continues along LoC

By Shujaat Bukhari

SRINAGAR AUG. 3. Three Indian soldiers were killed when troops exchanged fire across the Line of Control in the Gurez, Keran, Tangdar and Machil sectors of north Kashmir, even as there was a spurt in infiltration from across the border after a brief lull, the General Officer Commanding, 15 Corps, V. G. Patankar, said. Denying that there was any major loss of life in the Machil sector, Lt. Gen. Patankar told mediapersons at Shariefabad that there was no truth in a report in a Jammu-based English daily about the killing of 12 soldiers. (The report said that Machil had turned into a battlefield and that Pakistan had destroyed two Indian pickets killing 12 soldiers).

One Junior Commissioned Officer and two others had lost their lives. He said that infiltration, which had come down in the past had revived.
