Letters to the Editor
Sir, A week ago, a 20-year-old student of BITS, Pilani, returning to college after a two-month-long vacation along with 200 others, met with a fatal avoidable accident while travelling in the superfast Tamil Nadu Express. After breakfast, as he was washing his hands at the sink near the door in the second-class compartment this promising student was hurled out when the train jerked. The door, which had apparently been kept open by some thoughtless person, seems to have hit him as it swung shut. He fell under the train. A lone passenger in the corridor pulled the chain and the mutilated body was recovered. Is not there any latest safety technique which can ensure that a train does not move if all the doors are not closed? Esra Tasneem Aslam, Chennai
