Itanagar Aug. 4. Flash flood caused by torrential rain in the wee hours today washed away eight persons — including seven Army personnel — two iron bailey bridges, and three Army vehicles in Arunachal Pradesh, official sources said.

The West Kameng Superintendent of Police (in charge), T.Ringu, said over phone that of the eight reportedly missing, three bodies have so far been recovered.

The two bridges washed away near Rupa, used to link West Kameng and Tawang districts of Arunachal Pradesh, Mr. Ringu said.

Extensive damage has been caused to the Bhalukpong-Tawang road. Around 500 feet of road on each side was washed away from Bodila to Dirang and from Bomdila to Nafra. Four houses were washed away and five damaged in Bomdila and Dirang, he said.Though Border Road Task Force personnel were working on a war footing the restoration of road for vehicular traffic may take at least a week, the SP added.

Bihar situation grim

Meanwhile, in Patna, 10 more persons died since yesterday in the flood, taking the toll up to 129.

The overall situation remained grim with major rivers continuing to swell, threatening breach of embankments at various places.

While five persons drowned in two separate boat capsizes in Samastipur district, three persons died in Madhubani and two others in Gopalganj, official reports said today.

Four persons drowned in the Kareh river, when the boat in which they were travelling capsized near the Balha-Dagruga village of Samastipur district.
