Ban on tobacco, gutka ?

Jaipur Aug. 4. Terming tobacco as a ``disastrous killer'', the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, Shatrughan Sinha, today said the Government was formulating a policy to ban tobacco and its derivative `gutka'.

He said the Centre would formulate a policy to this effect during the current session of Parliament as tobacco use would be the disastrous killer in the country by the year 2020.

``The ban on gutka was a primary step, but the ban on tobacco use would have to be considered in a broader perspective and the society as a whole need to think over its adverse affects on human body,'' he said.

Every 40 seconds one person is dying in the world, and ever 10 seconds one Indian is dying due to tobacco menace, he said. — PTI
