Bengal bandh today

Kolkata Aug. 4. The Trinamool Congress today prepared to observe a 24-hour bandh in West Bengal tomorrow to protest bifurcation of Eastern Railway even as the Left Front Government geared up to ensure normal life is maintained.

The Trinamool Congress Chief, Mamata Banerjee, said all steps would be taken to keep the bandh peaceful but warned that the Government would be responsible for any untoward incident.

While the Left Front major partner, the CPI(M) dismissed any confrontation with the TC in foiling the bandh, the Government has ordered additional police deployment at railway stations, airports, bus stands and offices.

The Congress said it would neither oppose the bandh nor would be a party to it.The State Government had taken all steps to maintain law and order during the bandh.
