Slump in U.S. stocks

NEW YORK AUG. 5. Stocks slumped in late morning trade on Monday, dragging the tech-loaded Nasdaq down more than 2 per cent, as a slowdown in growth in the U.S. service sector added to jitters the nation's economic recovery has hit a roadblock.

The market hit session lows. The blue-chip Dow Jones industrial average lost 130 points to 8,184. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 Index dropped 14 points to 849. The Nasdaq Composite Index fell 25 points to 1,222. — Reuters
