Rupee strengthens further

MUMBAI AUG. 5. The rupee crept up further against the U.S. currency today, as healthy weekend dollar supplies ensured a firm trend even as trading remained quiet at the interbank foreign exchange market.

Closing at 48.6400/6450 a dollar, another paisa gain from last Friday's finish of 48.6500/6550, the rupee was confined to a tight band of 48.6350 and 48.6500 in muted business, dealers said. The Indian unit opened on a firm footing at 48.63/65, supported by dollar supplies accumulated over the weekend. — PTI
