Destroy training camps across the border: Farooq

PAHALGAM AUG. 6 . Condemning the attack on the Nunwan yatra camp (in which many Amarnath pilgrims were killed), the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Farooq Abdullah, today said that the terrorist training camps across the border must be destroyed.

Talking to reporters at Pahalgam hospital after meeting those injured in the attack, Dr. Abdullah said Pakistan would get nothing by engineering such acts and Kashmir would always remain part of India. It was time the world realised and responded to the situation created by a country, which he described as the "mother of terrorism".

Until the training camps across the border were not destroyed it would be difficult to root out terrorism.

Dr. Abdullah said there was no change on the ground even as the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, promised to stop infiltration. "Violence continues and people get killed. I cannot believe what he is saying," he said.

The Chief Minister asked the people not to get frightened by the attacks and resolve to fight Pakistan's evil designs.

The Governor, G.C. Saxena, also condemned the incident and said, "terrorists belonging to the jehadi organisations operating across the border are carrying out such acts of terror as part of a deliberate plan."

Condemning the attack on the pilgrims, the Hurriyat Conference said, "it was a human tragedy and as always we demand an impartial probe."

The National Conference, the Congress, the Democratic Freedom Party, the CPI (M), and the People's Democratic Party have also condemned the attack.
