Nitish announces sops to Bengal Metro

Kolkata Aug. 6. In what is being viewed as a bid to assuage the feelings in West Bengal over bifurcation of Eastern Railway, the Railway Minister, Nitish Kumar, has said that at least Rs. 100 crores would be earmarked for extension of the Kolkata Metro Rail project and the pending Circular Railway work in the metropolis.

Mr. Kumar told a meeting with the Railway Board members and the Metro Railway General Manager in New Delhi recently that funds would not be a constraint in project implementation.

Sources here said the Minister, while reviewing the progress of Metro Railway projects, said, Rs. 21 crores had already been spent for construction projects and stressed expeditious completion of the work. — PTI
