Letters to the Editor
Sir, It is shocking that some of the leading lights of the cultural scenario in Kerala have come out in support of the RSS, criticising the Chief Minister for describing it as a militant religious organisation (Aug. 4). Can they honestly describe the RSS, which trains its khaki shorts-clad, stick-wielding cadre in a military manner, with an unambiguous motto of `Hindutva' and `Hindu rashtra' as a nationalist organisation serving the country? Even the RSS' relief operations during natural calamities have been marked by sectarian discrimination. With the BJP coming to power, they have become much more forthright in their anti-minority agenda, as seen in the declarations at their recent conclave at Bangalore. If the likes of Sugathakumari and Vishnu Narayanan Namboothiri have become champions of the RSS, which hails Narendra Modi as the `hero of Gujarat', it is indeed a sad day for Keralites. G. Radhakrishnan, Thiruvananthapuram
