`Mystical Malabar' tomorrow

KOZHIKODE AUG. 7. The Tourism Minister, K.V. Thomas, will inaugurate a national tourism destination promotion and marketing — Mystical Malabar — organised under the auspices of the Malabar Tourism Board and the Department of Tourism at the Kadavu Resort, Azhinjilam here, on August 9.

Mr. Thomas would also release a compact disc on tourism in Malabar on the occasion, the organisers, N.K. Mohammed, K.N.A. Kader, MLA, and K.V. Ravisanker, told presspersons here today.

They said that a masterplan on the tourism potential of Malabar for the next 25 years would be drafted. Besides, the `Mystical Malabar' would be made an annual event to chalk out new strategies to attract domestic and international tourists.

The Minister for Health and Family Welfare, P. Sankaran, the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) chairperson, Padmaja Venugopal, the Tourism Secretary, T. Balakrishnan, K. Muraleedharan, MP, E. Ahamed, MP, and the Kerala Tourism Director, Alkesh Kumar Sharma, will participate in the inaugural session.

A cultural programme - Masks and Melodies of Malabar - by V. Jayarajan, chairman, Folkland Thrikkarippur, will also be held.

The Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), chairman, M.G.S. Narayanan, will present a paper on `Tourism in Malabar— Historical Perspective', the Travel Express Limited chairman, C. Nagendra Prasad, on ` Packaging Tourism Products of Malabar', the Leela Group of Hotels, vice-chairman, Vivek Nair, on ` Hospitality Industry in Malabar— Prospects', and the FHRAI, secretary general, Jose Dominic, on `Destination Malabar'.

The Malabar Tourism Board, CEO, M.P.M. Munawar, will give a multimedia presentation. A panel discussion on the topics presented will be held. Amitabh Kant, joint secretary, Tourism, Government of India, will present the concluding remarks of the workshop.

The Industries Minister, P.K. Kunhalikutty, will inaugurate the valedictory function in the evening. The Public Works Minister, M.K. Muneer, will deliver the keynote address and the Local Self-Government Minister, Cherkalam Abdulla, will be the chief guest on the occasion.

The KTDC managing director, K. Elangovan, V.K.C. Mohammed Koya, MLA, the TAAI president, K.C. Chandrahasan, the IATO president, E.M. Najeeb, the Calicut Chamber of Commerce and Industries president, K. Moidu, and the Malabar Chamber of Commerce and Industries president, Joy Varghese, will offer felicitations at the function.
