NC activist shot dead

SRINAGAR AUG. 7. Seven days after the killing of a prospective candidate of the National Conference for Tral constituency, another NC activist from the same area was gunned down by unknown militants in Dalgate locality here today.

Police said Ghulam Hassan Jan, tehsil president of the NC in Tral, was walking through the market when some gunmen shot him dead.

Last Wednesday, Fayaz Ahmed Bhat of Tral was shot dead along with his guard in his home town. The NC provincial president, G.N. Shaheen, condemned the killing and described it as an "act of cowardice on the part of militants to kill an unarmed civilian.''
