EC to visit Gujarat for spot assessment

New Delhi Aug. 7. In a significant decision, the three-member Election Commission headed by the Chief Election Commissioner, J.M. Lyngdoh, will undertake a three-day visit to Gujarat from tomorrow for a spot assessment of the situation to decide whether or not to hold early Assembly elections in the State.

This is the first time that all the members of the Election Commission are visiting a State before taking a decision on holding polls.

Mr. Lyngdoh and the other two commissioners, T.S. Krishnamurthy and B.V. Tandon, will visit Ahmedabad, Vadodara and other areas, sources said. — PTI
