Arrests in T.N. India's internal matter: Fernando

By Amit Baruah

NEW DELHI Aug. 8. The Sri Lankan Foreign Minister, Tyronne Fernando, said today that action taken against pro-LTTE elements in Tamil Nadu was an "internal matter'' for India.

Speaking at the Foreign Correspondents Club, Mr. Fernando said he was not sure whether the Sri Lankan Community Development Minister, P. Chandrasekaran, had written to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, seeking the release of Vaiko and P. Nedumaran.

The Sri Lankan Minister, who is on a private visit to the capital for the release of his book Alien Winds Across Paradise, said his Government's position was that these were internal matters in which "we will not interfere''.
