Godhra court acquits 71, over 40 rearrested

Godhra Aug. 9. A local court has acquitted 71 people, including Haji Bilal and former councillor Mohammed Hussain Kalota, prime accused in the Godhra train carnage, after prosecution failed to prove their involvement in the incidents.

However, immediately after the order was pronounced today, 44 of them including Bilal and Kalota were rearrested and sent back to jail, official sources said.

The Additional Sessions Judge Viral Desai, has acquitted 71 people after several witnesses turned hostile and prosecution failed to prove their involvement. — PTI
