CEC gives a piece of his mind

Baroda Aug. 10. The Chief Election Commissioner, J. M. Lyngdoh, today gave a tongue-lashing to the district authorities here and chided them for not giving proper information on the situation after the recent riots.

Apparently questioning the conclusion drawn on the situation, a visibly-angry Lyngdoh asked the District Collector: ``How are you saying that the situation has improved?''

``What kind of stories were you telling us over there,'' he retorted after the district officials said the people were returning home, while giving a briefing on the situation in the areas worst hit by the riots.

``The houses are all vacant. Are you not ashamed of yourselves?'' Mr. Lyngdoh asked. — PTI
