`Reserve two seats for Kashmiri Pandits'

New Delhi Aug. 11. The Jammu and Kashmir International Migrants Forum today demanded that the Centre reserve two seats for the Kashmiri Pandits as the displaced community would not be able to exercise its franchise in view of the disturbing conditions in the State.

The Centre should issue an ordinance in this regard so that Pandits were represented in the new Assembly, J.N. Kaul, convener of the forum, said in a statement.

He said that nearly four lakh Kashmiri Pandits were scattered all over India and they would not be able to actively participate in the elections. If the Election Commission was not keen on holding elections in Gujarat due to displacement of the people in the wake of recent communal disturbances, why can't it defer polls in Kashmir to finalise a strategy for enabling the migrants to exercise their franchise, he said.
