Sex racket busted

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Aug. 11. Four persons, including two women and a village officer, were arrested in connection with a sex-racket bust by the city police in Medical College police station limits on Saturday.

Police identified the accused as Sudha (55), Sarayu Devi (32), Venugopalan Nair (who was identified as the village officer) and Selvaraj (40) of Parassala.

An official said the sex-for-money racket was being conducted on the sly by the accused Sudha from a private residence in Job Lane, Kumarapuram. The other accused Sarayu Devi is a resident of Vizhinjam. Police said the men were regular clients at the house. The raid was ordered by the City Police Commissioner, Rajan Singh, who was acting on specific information from some local residents, police said.

A case has been registered under the Prevention of Immoral Traffic Act (PITA).
