Good spell by Balaji

BANGALORE Aug. 11. India probable L. Balaji (five for 83) guided defending champion Chemplast Sanmar into the final of the KSCA all-India invitational MRF Trophy tournament.

In the semifinal which concluded in a draw at the RSI ground here on Sunday, MRF slumped from the overnight 172 for one to 293 all out in 66.2 overs and Chemplast qualified for the final by virtue of a 56-run first innings lead.

MRF did have a false start as overnight centurion - S. Sriram - was indisposed with fever and failed to take first strike this morning.In the other semifinal at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, India Cements entered the final after grasping a 46-run first innings lead over ONGC in a drawn encounter.

Chemplast Sanmar and India Cements will clash in the final commencing here on Tuesday.

The scores (semi-finals):

ONGC 330 in 89 overs and 215 for eight decl. in 39.2 overs (Sarandeep Singh 47 n.o., Rizwan Shamshad 38, G. Vadehra 34, D.J. Gokul Krishnan three for 78) drew with India Cements 376 for seven in 90 overs (A.R. Madana Gopal 131, S. Sharath 93, Jesu Babu 35, Sunil Oasis 29 n.o., S. Suresh 29) and 135 for three in 29 overs (S. Suresh 57 n.o., Rajesh Puri 36, Jesubabu 25).

Chemplast Sanmar 349 for eight in 90 overs drew with MRF 293 in 66.2 overs (S. Sriram 110, S. Ramesh 55, Aashish Kapoor 34, L. Balaji five for 83).
