Sunil, Megha clinch titles

Mysore Aug.11. Top seeds Sunil Rangarajan (6 pts) and J. Megha (5 pts) clinched the coveted under-15 boys and girls chess titles, respectively, in the State sub-junior chess championship conducted by the MDCA at the Rotary West Auditorium here on Sunday.

Sriram Sarja (5.5), Arjun Sarja (5.5) and R. Panindra (5) finished second, third and fourth, respectively, in the boys section and earned selection to represent the State in the National to be held at Hyderabad from Sept. 10 along with R. Sunil.

In the girls section, H.P. Pallavi Maiya (4), G. Prateeka (3.5) and Ibbani (3.5) finished second, third and fourth, respectively, and will represent the State in the National along with Megha.

Important results: boys: (final round-VII): R. Sunil (6) bt Panindra (5); K. Vijaykeerthi (4.5) lost to Arjun Sarja (5.5); Sriram Sarja (5.5) bt Vikram Saralya (4.5); Vinay R. Kulkarni (5) bt M. Suraj (4.5); P.P. Prachura (4.5) drew with A. Balkishan (4.5); Viani Dichuna (4.5) drew with Nagendra (4.5); S. Yashas (4.5) bt C. Arjun (3).

Final placing: 1. R. Sunil (6); 2. Sriram Sarja (5.5-23); 3. Arjun Sarja (5.5-21);4. R. Panindra (5-22); 5.Vinayak R. Kulkarni (5-20); 6. M. Suraj (4.5-23.5); 7. K. Vijaykeerthi (4.5-22.5).

Girls: final round-V: J. Megha (5) bt D. Pavithra Jagtap (3); M. Namitha (3) lost to H.P. Pallavi Maiya (4); Ibbani (3.5) bt Soumya S. Vaze (3); V. Ankitha Kini (2.5) lost to G. Prateeka (3.5); Akshatha Bhat (2.5) lost to Irol M. Pinto (3).

Final placing: 1. J. Megha (5); 2. H.P. Pallavi Maiya (4); 3. G. Prateeka (3.5-10); 4. Ibbani (3.5-10); 5. D. Pavitha Jagtap (3-11); 6. M. Namitha (3-11); 7. Soumya S. Vaz (3-9).
