I didn't comment on CEC's visit

New Delhi Aug. 11. The Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, today said he had not made any comment on the Chief Election Commissioner's visit to Gujarat or the elections in the State.

``I had not made any comment. I talked to some people and different versions have come in different papers,'' Mr. Advani told PTI, referring to the media reports today which quoted him as having questioned the Chief Election Commissioner's visit to Gujarat for assessment of the law and order situation.

He was commenting on newspaper reports about his closed-door interaction with the party's elite workers here yesterday.

The BJP media cell joint convener, Sidharth Nath Singh, also wrote a letter to editors of three city newspapers, describing the reports as a ``classic case of fiction writing.''

``In his 50-minute speech, Mr. Advani did not refer to Gujarat and the Chief Election Commissioner. Among the various questions in the interaction that followed, a question was asked about some people who adopt double standards about elections in Gujarat and those in Kashmir.''

``While answering all the questions collectively, Mr. Advani merely made a one-sentence reference to the question by reminding the questioner that in Assam, Governments have been formed after two to three per cent of voting in some areas. There was no reference to the Chief Election Commissioner or other such matters reported,'' Mr. Singh said. — PTI
