Sir, The media reports and visuals leave one with an impression that Dr. Kalam's visit to Ahmedabad was nothing but a conducted tour. And that the man behind this was the Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi. Y.K. Mir, Hyderabad Sir, The restrictions imposed on the media during the President's visit to Gujarat are a direct attack on the freedom of the press and an attempt to stifle the voice of the people. Already, there has been much controversy over the communal riots in the State and the Government's efforts to hide the facts behind the violence that led to mass killings, rapes and displacement of thousands of people. Banning the media raises doubts about the real intentions of the Government. Krishna R. Patel, New Delhi Sir, Dr. Kalam's visit to Gujarat can be viewed as a bad sign for the BJP, which is already under attack for dissolving the Assembly eight months ahead of its tenure "to gain Hindu votes''. The callousness of the Government in searching for "missing" persons since the riots, and the policies that prevented repair of places of worship damaged during the riots, showed up during Dr. Kalam's visit. To top it all, the victims begging the President to return their rights as civilians of the country was a rude shock to an average Indian. Nooruddin, Vijayawada
